Lab Activity Evaluations

Survey of a Terrain Surface

(1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
  1.       Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic? (2)
  2.        Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic? (4)
  3.        Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) (5)
  4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1. Using a medium other than snow would be helpful for a first time analyzing terrain.

Lab #2: Visualizing and Refining a Spatial Survey
  1.  Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic?
    1. 2
  2. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn?
    1. Yes, quite a bit, visualization with new projections helped.
  3. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1.  Perhaps more, non-snow model, examples of where and how this type of survey can be used.
Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (2)
Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic. (4)
Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn? Yes.
What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?

    Creation of a Geodatabase
  1. Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic. (1)
  2. Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic? (3)
  3. Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn?
    1. yes
  4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1. Going through the construction of the geodatabase would have helped since I had never done it before and did not know how to. This was very much a learn by failing activity for me. Frustrating and hopefully very helpful.
MicroClimate

  4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1. Allowing for the collection of more points, time was the only issue here.

Distance/Azimuth Survey

(1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
  1.       Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic? (1)

  4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1. I think it was successful, the rain hindered the effectiveness of the hands on part.

Creating a Topographic Survey for the UWEC Campus

(1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
  1.       Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic? (2)
  2.        Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic? (4)
  3.        Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) (4)
  4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1. Nothing-I just needed my points projection solved, that was my only issue.

Topographic Survey With Total Station

(1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
  1.       Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic? (1)
    1. It would've been helpful to be there for the set up for the station to see it being done not just seeing post-set-up and hearing about the set up. Again this week rain may have played a part.
Priory Navigation with a GPS

(1-No Knowledge at atll, 2-Very Little Knowledge, 3-Some knowledge, 4-A good amount of knowledge, 5-I knew all about this)
  1.       Prior to this activity, how would you rank yourself in knowledge about the topic? (4)
  2.        Following this activity, how would you rate the amount of knowledge you have on the topic? (5)
  3.        Did the hands-on approach to this activity add to how much you were able to learn (1-Strongly Disagree, 2-Disagree, 3-No real opinion, 4-Agree, 5-Strongly Agree) (5)
  4. What types of learning strategies would you recommend to make the activity even better?
    1. Perhaps a mix of using the GPS for some points and compass for other points would have been good to get accustom to using only pace and a compass for navigation. In the conditions of the day however, with rain, that was deemed not necessary. It would have just been a good experience to get.
